ShipMath March 2009

The 2009 SU Student Mathematics Conference was well-attended, with over 100 students at Dr. Richeson’s presentation.  There were also eight talks by students from SU and, and students in attendance from SU,  Gettysburg College and Wilson College.

The highlight for the department seminar series was hands down the presentation by Barry Thornton, a 1984 graduate of Shippensburg University who now (allegedly) works for the National Security Agency. Not only did Barry give us a taste for code breaking and tell us what it’s like to work for the NSA, he brought us some cool pens and stuff.

The other big news is that we have two new professors on their way to SU! Dr. Lance Bryant from Pursue and Dr. Ben Galluzzo from the University of Iowa will be moving to central PA over the summer and joining us as tenure track assistant professors in the fall.  We are looking forward to their contributions to our programs, our students’ educations, and our community.
